The Beijing Mandarin: YLC Exams, formally named as Young Learners Chinese Examination, is a suite of Chinese language tests specially designed for children in primary and lower-secondary schools. The exams are provided by Beijing Mandarin.
BM YLC Exams are designed to assess the Chinese language skills of children. It is suitable for children from K3 – G8. The exams are available at three assessment levels (Starter, Runner, and Flyer) that encourage children to work through by monitoring their progress. There is no pass or fail grades since every child is rewarded for their own effort. The tests are an excellent way for children to gain confidence and improve their Chinese.
The BM YLC Exams are written around familiar topics and focus on the skills needed to communicate effectively in Chinese through listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

No pass or fail. All children are awarded badges for their effort.

The BM YLC program is designed to train the Chinese language skills of children. It is suitable for children from K1 – P8. These programs introduce children to everyday spoken Chinese and fundamental written Chinese. At the end of each level children can attend the BM YLC tests and gain confidence and be rewarded for their own effort.
The BM YLC program uses the Beijing Mandarin textbooks and workbooks. These materials incur an extra cost.
Children will be awarded a certificate issued by the Beijing Mandarin after completing the exam.
There are 7 levels in the YLC exams preparation program:
48 lessons (6 months)
Introduces basic Chinese vocabulary and reinforces it through a variety of mediums – audio, video, reading, writing, and group activities. At end of the program, the attendee can attend the test for the YLC starter certificates.

Children will be introduced to short sentence writing and will be taught simple grammar and sentence structures. At end of the program, the attendee can attend the test for the YLC starter certificates.
48 lessons (6 months)
Introduces practical use of Chinese vocabulary and grammar to further enhance learner’s Chinese, and reinforces it through a variety of mediums – audio, video, reading, writing, and group activities. At end of the program, attendee can attend the test for the YLC starter or Runner certificates.

With more demanding exercises and increased difficulty in reading and listening. At end of the program, the attendee can attend the test for the YLC starter or Runner certificates.
